I’ve waxed lyrical on here many a time about the genius of stupidly unknown mid-nineties band Brainiac. Another band cut short by the death of an irreplaceable frontman just as they were starting to get the recognition they deserved, Brainiac really were something very different for their time. They had a fan in Beck who took them on tour which in turn got them noticed by Interscope who signed them in 1997, tragically frontman Tim Taylor died in a car crash on the way to the studio during the recording of what would’ve been their major label debut and the band ended instantly. The three albums and handful of EP’s Brainiac did leave behind are among the most left of centre yet forward thinking releases of their time and were listed by Cedric Bixler as the biggest influence on At The Drive-In. Check this band out, they could’ve been huge.
